Abstract
The challenges that contemporary society demand of university students is a graduation profile according to the domain of scientific-technical competences that favors, in an important way, the fact of successfully entering the labor and academic world. The study aimed to analyze the scientific-technical competencies in students of the professional career of industrial engineering of the National Autonomous University of Tayacaja Daniel Hernández Morillo, of Peru. The research was carried out from the quantitative approach and constituted a descriptive-comparative, correlational and cross-sectional study. The research participants (n = 94) were students of the aforementioned professional career of the I, III and V study cycle in the 2021 school year (50 women, 44 men, ageM = 20.05 years, SD = 3.060, age range 16-34 years). To evaluate the scientific-technical competences, the Scientific-Technical Competences Self-Assessment Scale (Colás, 2009) was used, which was complemented by six preliminary items; furthermore, this instrument achieved high internal consistency using Cronbach's Alpha statistic (Alpha = 0.956). The administration of the instrument was carried out through Google Meet. The results of the research indicate insufficient levels of competencies (below the 50th percentile), although internally, all the dimensions presented direct and significant correlations (0.440 to 0.878; sig. = 0.000 < 0.05; 1 - ? = 0.995 to 1,000). The age of the students was negatively correlated with two dimensions of competence. The sex of the student and the cycle taken did not influence certain levels of competence. It was concluded that scientific-technical skills in university students require attention and an inquiry-based teaching approach.
